Home Sweet Home...

Mum reckons we must have been like a couple of old trail ponies, because as soon as our noses were pointed towards home, we just bolted.

From Kununurra, Dad drove 3018km in 36 hours!

We spent just over 5 weeks away from home, drove almost 10,000 km, flew in a chopper and a plane, spotted plenty of crocs, fed sharks, ran from snakes, made a few new friends, rode through rapids, saw some really awesome landscapes, caught 4 Barra, Sooty Grunter, Bream,  Queenfish, Barracuda and a Fingermark... and bought lots of the Kimberley dirt back with us to show mum!

We got home at about 8pm on a Sunday and mum and dad said it was ok if I had the Monday off... but I wanted to go to school.  The WA air must have done something to my brain!!

Dad discovered that the irritation and blurriness he had in his eye for most of the trip was actually a detached retina and had to have surgery straight away!  Mum reckons he always gets a bit one-eyed during the State of Origin, but that was taking things a bit too far!  :)

Anyway, thanks for tagging along with us.  I hope you enjoyed our travels as much as we did.  We have had a really amazing trip and I know I will remember it for a long time.  We still didn't get to see everything there was to see along the way, so I'm sure dad will have another trip in mind for another time... :)

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day 33 - Pack up and Head Home!

After breaky, we packed up and went to Halls Creek.

It was really the last day of our Kimberley adventure.  We have to go to Kununurra to get the car serviced before the long drive home.

The road was pretty boring, but we made it to Halls Creek for the night.

When we got there we got into a motel and I went for a swim!  Dinner, a bit of telly and then off to bed.  All this driving makes me tired!  :)

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day 32 - Langi Crossing

After breakfast, we launched the boat and went for a fish.

While we were fishing we saw this huge croc!

Smile at a crocodile...

When the tide was coming in, it was going so fast you could see it and hear it come in.

All quiet on the fish front again though.  :(

When we got back I went for a little ride and then we had dinner and went to bed.

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day 31 - Langi Crossing Exploring

Today we just did a bit of exploring and made a quick trip back into Derby.  Dad and I both needed new thongs, as we both broke our old ones... and dad was sick of finding all the prickles!  :)

Not much to report today.  Just a quiet one.

We did make another candle though...

Bye for now,

Day 30 - Horizontal Falls back to Derby and Langi Crossing

After breakfast we went for another boat ride through the falls again.  It was really spectacular.

This rock face was unreal.

We got to go through the narrow one this time because the water wasn’t going as fast.  Its only 7m wide.

We tried to feed Gordo again before we left, but he just wanted to play games today.

When we got back, we boarded the plane for the flight back to Derby.

This lonely boat had the bay all to themselves.

A barra farm we saw on our way back.

Apparently its normal for the low fuel lights to come on... !

The jetty in Derby from the air

Then we hooked up and went to Langi crossing.  Dad found some goat head prickles when he got out of the car without thongs.  He said "I don't particularly like these prickles".

When we got there we set up camp and went for a fish.

I didn't manage to catch dinner though!  We set up our fire then, had dinner and went to bed.

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day 28 - Derby Layday

Bit of a quiet day today.

I rode Mick's bike around the park and helped do a service on his truck.

We also thought we should do a bit of washing today.  Sheets, clothes, towels etc.  Dad said if we don't do it they will walk home by themselves.  Nearly 4 weeks on the road, with dirt, mud and grime will do that.  We still don't know why the flies are attracted to us.

Spaghetti bol for dinner.  Yum.  We even have the proper smelly cheese.  :)

Back for more... we have a really exciting couple of days ahead!  I can't wait!!

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day 29 - Derby Prison Boab Tree then off to the Horizontal Falls

After breaky this morning, we got our stuff ready to f to Horizontal Falls, which we are really looking forward to.

Then we went out for a walk around the prison boab tree and had lunch at the sports bar. I had pizza.

Then we went back got our stuff and waited for the bus to arrive to drop us off at the airport.
When we got there we hopped on the sea plane and we went to Horizontal falls.

I got to sit in the pilot seat of the plane.

Here is a video of the tour we will be taking...

And this is the view of the falls on our flight in.  We thought it looked pretty cool from the sky, but it was really cool from the boat!

Our accommodation for the night

Then we went on the speed boat and went up the falls.

We couldn’t go up the second fall because it was narrower and the water was going too fast.

When we got back I swam with the sharks and there was this huge fish called Gordon & hes a QLD groper.  All 180kgs of him.

Hello Gordo.  He really liked me.  Dad said that's because he wanted to eat me.

The sharks lining up for tucker.  They were all Tawny Nurse sharks.

Then we watched the sunset then had fresh barra & sadad for dinner.

They needed extra fish to feed the sharks & Gordo so they asked if I wanted to catch some bait fish on the jig hooks.  I caught at least 30 bait fish.

...more sharks

After a long day with more new and exciting things to see and do, it was definitely time for bed,

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)
