Day 14 - More Fishing Walsh Point

A pretty relaxing day today.  We didn’t really do much except fish, eat and get fire wood.  :)

I woke up and had breaky… as always and went to check the crab pots and have a fish.

We had to wait for the tides because the tides were high and we were going to fish while the tide goes down.
Dad caught a Barra… again!  And we saw a croc about 20 ft away from the bank.

After that we went to collect some fire wood and went back to camp.

Then we made the fire and we had fresh Barra for dinner and then we went to bed.  (That's Dad's beer, not mine!!)   :)

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day 13 - Walsh Point Fishing

Another day, another fishing opportunity!!

We woke up, had breaky and went out on the boat for a fish.  Dad caught 1 barra, 1 brim and 1 ugly looking thing that we didn’t know what it was.

We had to stop near some mangroves because Mick's boat was making sounds that weren’t good. We checked the oil in the gear box and it had metal in it ... which is bad.

We went back to camp to check what was causing it and it had a tooth torn off the gear box.

After that we went to get some fire wood and made the fire.

For dinner I had an egg, sausage, bacon and chips.  Then I went to bed.

Be back with more really soon...

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day12 - Drysdale Station (Miners Pool) to Walsh Point via Mitchell Plateau

We left Drysdale River Miner's Pool bush camp site at 8:30am and got to Walsh Point at 5:00 pm.  (Walsh Point is at the tip of that dotted route near Mitchell Falls.)

The last 22 km was very rocky and slow.  It took about 3 hours for the last 22 km. On the way there I took some photos of the landscape and the ocean.

Oh… and we found a black headed python. Well, dad thought it was until he grabbed the tail of it and it started barking at him!  (I can hear you from here mum!)  It was a bit more aggressive then a black headed python, so he thought maybe it wasn't!  *Don't try this at home kiddies!!

Cactus kiddie.  Big day moving rocks & fighting snakes.  No Mum, that is not dirt on my feet.  I did have a scrub, it is just red dirt stain.  :)

Back for more soon.

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day 11 - Home Valley Station to Drysdale River

Headed off from Home Valley on our way up to the Mitchel Plateau.  The drive wasn’t too bad.  The Gibb River road wasn’t as bad as we thought it might be.  Once we turned off onto the Kalumburu road heading north the corrugations got worse.

We arrived at Drysdale station & decided to camp at the Miners Pool which is about 5km from the homestead.

We saw this 4wd loaded up.  I don’t think he wanted to tow a trailer!

We fuelled up, which was a bit more expensive than home. $2.35/lt

The Miners Pool was bigger than expected, and was cold and refreshing.  It had a rope swing which I couldn't jump off because the water was too shallow.

We weren’t going to have a fire but I found this big hollow log.  Dad & Mick said we should make a candle for Claire's birthday, that we missed last Saturday.  It was over 7 ft tall.  Once it got going, it spread light all over the camp site.  We made sure it was in a clear open area.  I reckon our friend Tom would think this was a ripper.

What do you reckon Tom?  Is this a cracker or what?

We had lamb stew for dinner with some bread rolls that had been flown in from Perth.  We can’t tell you where we got them from but they cost us 12 bucks for 8 rolls.  Nice & fresh & were great soaking up the gravy from the stew.

The candle finally burnt down into some nice hot coals.  It kept us warm until it was time for bed.

Mr Bovine kept us awake a bit last night.  I think he liked the warm fire as well because he stayed close to our camp all night.

Off to the Mitchell Plateau tomorrow.

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)

Day 10 - Easy day on HV station

Just a steady day today.  Recovering from yesterday’s fishing adventure.

Doing up the blog while we can get Wi-Fi.
It's cost us $45 to do the last few days of blogging!!

 Home Valley Homestead

Having a nice lunch and a cool swim in the pool.

Roughing it for lunch today at the Home Valley homestead, because those nasty crows ate our cold chook we left on top of the esky!  I had a chicken wrap that was the size of my arm, and dad had the Kimberley style fish & chips. (The barra we didn’t catch last night)  :)

Spit roast lamb & veg for dinner.  No use roughing it while you camp!

Packing up the camp this arvo, so we can hit the road tomorrow.  Not sure where to yet.  Dad reckons we will just go with the flow and follow our nose.

Bye for now,

Cooper  :)
